7 Tactics That Cut Patient No-Shows

The US outpatient no-show rate typically sits in the mid-teens. A large share of those visits are forgotten — not a refusal to come. Calling every patient by hand does not scale past a few providers.
What works: a sequence the clinic can edit (example: SMS at 72 hours, email at 48 hours, voice at 4 hours), a one-tap or reply CONFIRM, and an inbox so staff see YES vs no response. Inventing a universal “3 days / 1 day / 4 hours” script in marketing is weaker than showing the workflow UI.
Pair reminders with a waitlist only if you actually backfill. Measure with the formula on the no-show calculator. For specialty benchmarks, read average patient no-show rate. The product that owns reduce-no-shows is no-show prevention software.
